Urban Summer

There are special spots in the city that are always cool and breezy due to the wind dropping off the buildings like a gigantic ice cube. One of these spots is at Saint Germain the elderly high rise on East School Street. I love to swing by there every day and howdy the gang that hangs out on the benches. There's a picnic table out back with wooden bench swings. They kibbutz, play chess and enjoy the shade from the gigantic tree. This is a joy to see.
My grandmother Sophie lived on Brighton beach in Brooklyn and she'd go down and chit chat on the boardwalk every day, or shop for fruit on the Avenue a block away. We need these conversations to stay alive.
